On Episode 135 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Aisha Staggers & I talk about the lyrics to Prince’s sex-pest anthem, “Feel U Up.” This long-gestating track dates back to late 1981 and was intended for the abandoned 1986 Camille project before finally finding a home as the B-side to Batman’s “Partyman.”

“What’s the verdict? I don’t like suspense. How can you resist my burning touch?”
Camille’s getting frisky, and there’s no stopping them on “Feel U Up.” The early version, dating back to the 1999 sessions, is raw and dirty, just like the lyrics. The lyrics from the 1986 version, released in 1989, remain mostly unchanged, but the music has a more sophisticated sound thanks to Prince’s obsession with horns. It doesn’t really matter which version you prefer, as the outcome is funky either way.
The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:
- Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
- Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
- If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics
Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
