Episode 130: Trust

On Episode 130 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I welcome Roy Turner (@TrickyKid2 on Twitter) of Tricky Kid Media on iHeart Radio back to the show to talk with me about what Prince is trying to tell us on “Trust” from the Batman soundtrack. Prince has a few relevant questions for his prospective romantic partners, and we want to get to the heart of the matter.

“I put this question to you, ’cause I want you to be with me.”

“Trust” is upbeat, danceable, and it soundtracks a memorable scene in Batman where the Joker attempts to poison residents of Gotham City by throwing money at them, distracting them from the gas-filled parade balloons. However, it’s also a lyrically profound song that speaks to Prince’s distrust of those that might not be his friends or lovers for the right reasons. He wants to believe the reasons are genuine and honest, but he’s got a few questions that need answering first.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
