Episode 128: Partyman

On Episode 128 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Richard Cole from the Amari Purple Talk Podcast (AmariCommunications.com) joins the show to talk about “Partyman” from the Batman soundtrack. We talk about Richard’s history with comics, our assessment of the song’s lyrics as they pertain to it being a song sung by the Joker, and touch briefly on the fantastic music video & placement in the film.

“Young and old, gather ’round. Everybody hail the new king in town.”

Prince turns the Joker persona from the Batman film into a party-down bro with a penchant for anarchy and violence. He almost makes this dangerous psychopath a fun-loving protagonist with lines like “I rock the party, I rock the house” and “the funkiest man you’ve ever seen.” I almost want to party with the Joker, as long as Prince is performing.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
