On episode 165 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I discuss the lyrics to the edgier, grittier version of “Extraloveable” from Prince’s early ’80s vault. How do this version’s lyrics compare to the song’s released version 30 years later?
“Extraloveable, honey, don’t U wanna…take a bath with me?”
Prince takes sexual obsession way too far on this unreleased hard-edged synth-rock track from the 1999 era. The envelope pusher offers his services for co-bathing/showering but gets abusive when she takes too long to provide the green light he expects. This version remains unreleased for a reason, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a danceable rock song here that’s worthy of discussion.
The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:
- Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
- Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
- If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics
Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
