On episode 160 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I discuss the lyrics to yet another rockabilly-new wave mash-up of Prince’s during the early ’80s, “No Call U,” which can be found on the 1999 Super Deluxe.

“My body wants 2 call U, but my ego said I got 2 resist.”
A simple but cool song about a guy (or girl, since the pronouns switch midway) who is tired of always initiating contact with the person they are romantically interested in. They’re putting their foot down and taking a stand. Call me, asshole. I won’t call you repeatedly just to let you walk all over me. Whether it was meant for Vanity or Jill Jones, or both, or neither, it’s a bop.
The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:
- Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
- Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
- If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics
Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
