Episode 154: Turn It Up

On episode 154 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, we work it like a radio and “Turn It Up” for this 1999-era vault track and discuss the radio metaphors used & the potential reasons why it was scrapped.

“Come and play with my controls.”

While this song is a true bop, it also has a very synthetically dated sound that puts it squarely into the early ’80s. An actual vault song from the standpoint that it could also be a time capsule buried under Paisley Park for someone to dig up in 200 years. So this is what ’80s synth-pop-funk sounds like.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
