Episode 137: Sex

On episode 137 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Ernie Wyles & I declare that the 80s are over, and the time has come for us to discuss the lyrics to The Scandalous Sex Suite B-side, “Sex.” Do the lyrics live up to our deviant expectations for a song with this simple yet scandalous title? Check out the episode and find out!

“I climb a thousand trees if I have to, but baby, I’m warnin’ you. One of us is gonna end up on our knees.”

It’s not exactly the sex song we thought we would get from Prince, but it’s the sex song that makes the most sense for where his head was in 1989. Monogamy, trust, safer sex. The mantra of a man that spent the better part of the decade sowing his wild oats and taking advantage of the perks of stardom. Now in his 30s, Prince seemed ready to settle down, and he wanted to use this opportunity to continue his agenda – spirituality + love = mind-blowing sex.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
