Episode 93: It

On Episode 93 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I welcome Roy Turner (@TrickyKid2 on Twitter) of Tricky Kid Media (https://www.facebook.com/TrickyKidRadio/) back to the show to talk with me about the thumping, sexually driven “It” from Sign o’ the Times. Is “It” simply about sexual obsession, or is there more to what Prince is laying down?

“With you I swear, I’m a maniac, all right.”

“It” is not one of the Sign o’ the Times songs that Prince carried with him throughout his career and never performed it live as a standalone song. In the Sign o’ the Times film, he includes aspects of the song’s lyrics over the outro to the gospeled-up “Forever In My Life.” He’d only ever interpolate the song’s music or lyrics with other songs on future tours such as Lovesexy and Diamonds & Pearls before abandoning it in a live setting altogether after the D&P tour.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
