Episode 80: Girls & Boys

On Episode 80 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I’m joined by Christy Norman from The Mountains & the Sea and Killer Fun podcasts to test our French on the fun and funky “Girls and Boys” from Parade. Is this the first ever officially recorded Prince rap? Let me know!

“She had the cutest ass he’d ever seen. He did too, they were meant to be.”

After the suite of tracks to kick off the Parade album, we get the banging “Girls & Boys.” It’s one of the funniest, funkiest songs on the album and probably the most memorable musical interlude from the entire film. Who can forget Prince, as Christopher Tracy, leading a dance party in the stuffy high-class French Riviera restaurant?

Christy and I have as much fun talking about this song as Prince and the Revolution have performed it. The track is a standout, and with the spoken-word French bridge courtesy of Marie France (of course), there’s plenty to discuss. Vous etes tres belle, mama.

The goal of each episode of Press Rewind is to:

  • Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
  • Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics along with any guest I may have
  • If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
