Episode Summary: In my introductory episode for the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, I spend some time explaining the premise of the show, my intro to Prince’s music back in 1983, as well as discussing the lyrics to his very first album track, “For You.”

“All of this and more is for you. With love, sincerity and deepest care, my life with you I share.”
With these two simple lines, Prince offers his musical ethos to all of his listeners, past, present, and future. All of this. What is this, exactly? My take, or at least how I choose to think of these lyrics, is that he’s referring to his gifts. His musical abilities to write, produce and perform an entire album’s worth of material with little to no assistance. At the tender age of 18 and 19 years old. Incredible.
Whether Prince knew at this young age, what kind of career he would have seems unlikely. However, it’s very likely he already had the confidence to go along with his natural and practiced gifts, to predict great things for himself. He shared his life with us, through his music, exactly how he said he would.
My podcast’s goal is to dive into an aspect of Prince’s music that I feel doesn’t garner enough attention, his lyrical content. I haven’t done my part in genuinely listening to the words of many Prince songs as I’m too entranced with the music. This podcast is the perfect opportunity to rectify that, with love, sincerity, and deepest care for his music, messages, and legacy.
The purpose of Press Rewind – A Prince Lyrics Podcast is to:
- Take a track by track look at the lyrical content of Prince’s discography
- Discuss my own interpretation of each song’s lyrics
- If submitted, discuss listener’s interpretations of each song’s lyrics
Thank you for joining me on this journey through Prince’s catalog!
